Illustration Friday "Wise"


This week the Illustration Friday's theme is "wise".

I was going for a wise old pirate, but I think wizards are do "wise" better.
I actually need to get working on other things, but I thought I'd get this up. Need to balance creating with promotion. Doing the illustration friday makes me do both.

I'm teaching tomorrow. I wish I wasn't. I'd rather be drawing, sketching, or working on my craft.
As soon as I finish I'm zooming back home to finish up some roughs for the Tom and Jerry book.

All struggling artists go through this, I know. Having to work at something they don't wanna do in order to do something they do wanna do. But sometimes it eats at my soul. Deprives me of the energy I need to do my best.

What do you do? You have to find your fuel. My fuel is a mixture of fear, anger, hope, pride, and desire. Fear of mediocrity, anger at my own complacency, hope that I will be discovered, pride in what I've accomplished so far, and desire to make a name and make a living at creating.

What? Too straight for you? I'm sure you can handle it.

That is really cool. I love that the wizard cat looks like he's threatening to rip out the other cat's eyes if he crosses him. Great job.

Trip to Trippy Land

Yes, I took a quick trip to L.A. or as they say in Japan "Los", and I was able to visit the Los Angeles ComicBook and Science Fiction Convention where I was able to meet Rutger Hauer and have him sign his new book for me! Yes, the picture is crap, but I was happy as hell to meet this intense actor who has been in a whole mess of my favorite movies! Also learned about his AIDS awareness activities including his Starfish Association , and I was happy to donate $10 and get a signed pic for a friend back here who is sick. Also came across this interesting mail box. So, what else have I been up to? An animation that my team put together for the hip hop mag The Source (Japan) was screened last night at the club Shibuya Harlem (yeah, don't ask). It's always nice when you can see your work up on a big screen with more than just your friends and family watching. Starry-eyed heroes of Akira 'Leiji' Matsumoto

Hello, friends and manga-philes.      You probably know that my interest in Japan was originally fueled by a combined interest in Japanese animation and martial arts. My interests expanded somewhat over the years, but one big change happened about the age of 15 when I bought my first Japanese collected comic. From that moment on, I became more interested in comics than animation and eventually after moving to Japan, I started to collect the comics of Mr. Leiji Matsumoto .       At first, I was put off by the heavy-lined art and blocky characters, but the more I got into the stories, the less I cared about the style.
